Othaya Agricultural Cooperative in Nyeri, famous for its specialty coffee, is a cooperative that focuses on producing its own seedlings to provide to small farmers and operating a cupping lab, and is firmly committed to improving production volume and quality control. Located in an area with a particularly high altitude (about 1,900m) in the Nyeri district, which is surrounded by mountains to the west and north, the coffee cherries ripen slowly, developing a sweeter and more acidic flavor and resulting in a coffee with a richer taste.
Othaya Agricultural Cooperative operates with a comprehensive quality control system in the Nyeri district, with Gachuyaini village as its production center. It regularly holds seminars for its members to improve overall production and quality. Unlike other producer groups, this agricultural cooperative also owns a dry mill, so it has a stable quality control system right up to export.
Gachuyaini AA has the flavor of cassis, a Kenyan flavour that has been lost in recent years.
