HOW TO BREW: AEROPRESS

HOW TO BREW | AEROPRESS

This is the standard (upright) extraction recipe used by THE WORD COFFEE using an Aeropress.

What you need

・Purified water or soft mineral water

・Aeropress and dedicated paper filter

・Coffee server

・Coffee kettle

A coffee scale, smartphone timer, or kitchen scale

・Stirring spoon

recipe

Ratio: Coffee powder/water = 1:13-1:15 *This time, 14g powder: 200ml water

Mesh (grind size) / Medium to medium-coarse

Water temperature: Light roast is around 93℃, other roast levels are 90-88℃

- Place the paper filter and cap in the chamber and blanch.

- Discard the water used for blanching and place the server and the chamber containing the grounds on the coffee scale.

- As soon as the timer starts, pour in all the hot water from a slightly higher position and stir several times with a spoon.

After 60 seconds, stir again with a spoon.

-Set the plunger (piston part) and press slowly for 15 to 20 seconds.

- When all the liquid has dripped out during pressing and you hear the sound of air escaping, the extraction is complete.

-If the coffee feels powdery or has an unpleasant taste, you can adjust the grind size. Fine adjustments can be made by adjusting the water temperature.

-In addition to the standard method, there is also the inverted method (where the coffee maker is turned upside down). The inverted method produces a similar flavor to the immersion method, but because the coffee passes through a filter, no fine powder is left behind, resulting in clean, mild coffee. However, at THE WORD COFFEE, we use the standard upright method, which produces a more pronounced flavor profile.
