The 2050 problem, coffee, and the future.
The 2050 problem, coffee, and the future.
What is the 2050 problem?
Research institutes around the world predict that by 2050, natural disasters caused by global climate change, global warming, and abnormal weather will increase dramatically, the supply of various agricultural crops will decrease, and food crises and other adverse events will occur.
Of course, coffee is no exception.
According to a report by World Coffee Research, by 2050, the area suitable for coffee cultivation is predicted to decrease to 50% of its current size.
This does not simply mean that coffee will become scarce or that it will no longer be possible to drink it as readily as we do now; it poses serious problems that will have a direct impact on the economies of producing countries.
The global economy and coffee.
The coffee market, second only to oil in trade volume, is a gigantic global industry, and is a major industry supporting the economies of many coffee-producing developing countries.
If the coffee industry declines, it will have a huge impact not only on developing countries, but on the entire global economy. In other words, it is a very important issue that will directly affect us and our descendants. It is not just a problem for faraway countries.
To protect the future.
We still have a little time until 2050. Given that the speed of technological innovation is improving day by day, technological developments that will lead to the future will also progress, and measures will be possible.
In fact, various efforts are already being made around the world to address this issue. However, of course, these efforts are also supported by capital, and nothing can be achieved without it. As the current market continues to grow, it will lead to investments in the future to deal with this critical situation.
What we can do.
So what can we as individuals do? The answer is simple.
One thing you can do right now is drink coffee.
By continuing to drink not only specialty coffee but a variety of other coffees as we have done in the past, or even as much as we can from now on, we can protect the coffee industry and ultimately support the future global economy.
So far, I have focused on coffee, but as I mentioned earlier, the 2050 problem is not just about coffee. It is about a global crisis that is predicted to occur in the near future.
For the sake of something that you don't want to lose, that you want to protect, that you love, the first thing that each of us can do is to think a little more about the environment, and continue to consume and support it as we have done until now.
This world is shaped by a chain of small thoughts.
We can start doing small things right now to protect our future and the future of the precious people we weave. And it shouldn't be difficult.
The entire future rests on the consciousness and thoughts of each of us living in the present.
Enjoy the present for a better future.
At this point, no one knows when we will no longer be able to drink the delicious coffee we take for granted today. Even at this moment of writing, the amount of land suitable for growing coffee is likely decreasing.
Since we don't know when that day will come, we encourage you to enjoy as much coffee as you can, whether it's a brand from your favorite region or farm, or a variety or brand you've never tried before.
As a result, the future should look better.
