IDENTITY:THE WORD COFFEE
As a point of contact between worlds.
Arriving at "THE WORD COFFEE" feels, in hindsight, both inevitable and natural, considering that everything I have touched, every event that has moved me, and all the time I have accumulated, are what lead to this moment.
We communicate our intentions and feelings through words.
Yet, at the same time, there exist things that words alone can never capture: the landscapes lingering in the depths of our memories, the sensations felt when encountering overwhelming beauty, or the things that draw us in for no apparent reason.
Perhaps we are drawn to art or certain poetic, abstract expressions precisely because they attempt to give shape to those unspeakable things. In the "blank space" that exists where words cannot reach, the recipient’s own world is reflected. That is perhaps why such expressions resonate so deeply.
Personally, during a period when my mental health was severely compromised and I was on the verge of losing my connection to the world, I found myself constantly seeking out expressions left behind by others—be it words, music, videos, paintings, or photographs.
They were not trying to save me.
They were simply, quietly existing.
Yet, my encounters with those many "somethings" residing in those blank spaces gradually began to set my frozen time back into motion.
Among those memories were my encounters with Specialty Coffee. Within them lay the stories of various lands, producers, and roasters. It was a special encounter in the midst of mundane daily life—entirely different from the coffee I had known since childhood—that instantly transformed my concept of what it could be.
The world unfolding within the cup and its complex flavor stirred my heart so deeply that the memory remains with me to this day.
That is precisely why becoming a purveyor of coffee and adopting the name "WORD" felt like such a natural progression.
The "WORD" here does not just mean "words" for communication.
It refers to things that transcend the limits of language, floating into someone's heart with a physical presence, much like a leaf—a concept captured in the Japanese term "kotonoha" (leaves of words), which I have imbued with this meaning.
Expressing the inexpressible is not reserved solely for art or creation. For instance, brewing a single cup of coffee can also serve as a definitive expression for touching someone's world.
Things born from daily life resonate with the memories and experiences of those who receive them, touching their hearts as "something" beyond words. Is that not an experience we have all had?
The logo for THE WORD COFFEE is inspired by the wind and the leaves of a tree.
The illustration on the packaging represents the "leaves of words" as they drift from one world to another.
Where what is born here arrives, and what shape it takes—that is left to the recipient.
What we weave may be but a mere fragment of this world.
Even so, that fragment touches someone's world, creates something, and is spun even further away.
Is it not the accumulation of such certain moments that shapes our individual landscapes?
Simply to touch and to feel.
Perhaps that alone has its own value.
